Geet Sethi will take on Pankaj Advani while Devendra Joshi plays Rupesh Shah on Tuesday

BANGALORE: Asserting supremacy, Indian cueists rocked on the green baize at the ONGC-sponsored IBSF World Billiards championship (time format) at the Karnataka State Billiards Association (KSBA) on Monday.

Inching closer to the World title after winning in their respective quarter finals, former world champion (points format) Rupesh Shah will lock horns with Asian champion Devendra Joshi while Geet Sethi will face the challenge of defending champion Pankaj Advani in an all Indian semi-finals to be held on Tuesday.

In the quarterfinals, Gujarat pro Shah stunned Singaporean master Peter Gilchrist with a splendid four-century breaks and a whooping 257 break in the 29th visit to down his opponent 1183-966 in perhaps the best quarter final match of the day. Speaking to DNA a rather delighted Shah said: "It was a sweet revenge after being beaten by Peter in the World Professional meet in London last month."

In yet another nerve gripping match, cue sensation Advani, chasing a record hat-trick of world titles, put up an extraordinary show to oust the Kolkata youngster Sourav Kothari 1356-1293. "Sourav put up an exceptional display of billiards. It was not like I played badly but he literally punished me in every visit," said Advani.

On the adjacent table, 41-year-old Mumbai pro Devendra Joshi put an end to a creditable performance by last year's runner-up Druv Sitwala 1108-1102 to make it to the last four while veteran cueist Sethi potted an easy win against Thailand's Thawat Sujaritthurakarn 1756-783.
